Self-referral

Don’t see a placement that suits you?

We may be able to help you further if you already meet certain criteria:

  1. The traditional building skill that you are interested in training in must be one of those that has been identified in short supply. See list of traditional building skills.
  2. You must have at least an NVQ level 2 or equivalent in the relevant building skill.*
  3. You must demonstrate your commitment to working in the built heritage sector and motivation to develop your skills further toward NVQ level 3 Heritage Skills or equivalent.
  4. You must demonstrate your efforts to gain and/or experience of training and/or working in the heritage sector.
  5. Are you prepared to relocate to undertake a placement in another region?

If you are able to demonstrate all these criteria to the satisfaction of the Recruitment panel then the Scheme may be able to help you find a suitable placement.

* exceptions to this are drystone walling, thatching and blacksmithing, where the applicant needs to demonstrate evidence of interest, knowledge and experience in these building skills.

Complete the self-referral application pack below and e-mail it or post it to the Bursary Scheme Manager, who will contact you to discuss your application further.

Self-referral application Pack Inserts:

* Download the Application Form as a Word document if you would like to fill it in electronically. Email the completed form to clara@buildingbursaries.org.uk.

The Scheme can not ensure that they will be able to find and provide a suitable placement for each application.

If an individual has identified a company or organisation as a potential Placement Provider, then it is essential that the company or organisation registers to become a Placement Provider.
